A
Scuba Experience with a Difference,
Diving in Lanzarote and
the Canary Islands.
Most people
visiting the most easterly Canary Island of Lanzarote are
looking for sun, sea and amazing sights; but look too for
earth, wind, fire and of course water. Over the millennia,
these powerful forces have combined to give Lanzarote their
distinctive character, volcanic landscapes, waterless but
not barren – hills, and amazing beaches of pure Sahara
sand are the impressive legacies.
The Canary Islands are a scuba diving dream for both divers
and snorklers. The Canary Islands’ scuba diving reputation
is outstanding. The impressive landscape formations above
land continue beneath the surface, creating a most spectacular
underwater world. Underwater visibility is an average of 25meters
daily, and the climate means diving is possible all year around.
All this means Lanzarote is one of the most popular destinations
for scuba diving in the Canaries.
Diving in Lanzarote is suitable for divers with any level
of experience. Lanzarote’s water temperatures, reach
24 degrees Celsius for summer diving and go down to a minimum
of 17 degrees Celsius for diving in winter. Lanzarote’s
natural volcanic lava flows have created a unique underwater
environment with amazing topography. Being an island, if the
seas are rough, there is always a sheltered cove somewhere
which is accessible to divers.
Snorkllers
can enjoy the shallow reefs, rock formations, abundance of
marine life and swim throughs that the clear waters of Lanzarote
has to offer. . Just a five minute walk from the dive centre
is a sheltered private sandy beach that boasts some of the
best snorkelling on the island. Barracuda, large groupers
and eagle rays can be spotted here daily, making it an excellent
scuba diving site too.
If
you are new to diving, the student diver in training can be
guaranteed to be in the water from day one as Lanzarote offers
perfectly safe conditions, giving you the real experience
of the under water world.
