What is SSI Stress & Rescue and who is it for?

A Rescue Diver course for certified divers who are ready to go beyond simply diving well.

If you already dive and are looking for a diving rescue course, this could be a great fit.

SSI Stress & Rescue is designed for Open Water or equivalent certified divers. It helps you improve prevention, stay calm, solve problems and work better as a team when things start to get more challenging underwater.

It is a practical, hands-on course, and one of those experiences that leaves you with the clear feeling that you have learned something important.

And the best part is that it is also a lot of fun. You will laugh, enjoy it and learn a lot along the way.

What this course changes for you as a diver

Control

You start spotting problems earlier and making better decisions underwater, instead of reacting late or just making it up as you go.

Calm

When something goes wrong, you are less likely to freeze. You get clearer on what to do first and how to keep things under control.

Confidence

You stop relying so much on others and start trusting yourself more, your actions and the way you respond under pressure.

Safety

You learn to read the situation better, notice signs in other divers and step in before a small problem becomes a bigger one.

Judgement

You finish the course feeling more able to understand what is happening and respond with calm and clarity when it matters.

And yes, even though it is a rescue course, you will really enjoy it and come out of the water smiling.

Your Rescue course, better in Lanzarote

A place where you can train well and still enjoy every dive.

Lanzarote gives you a very different setting, with volcanic scenery, good visibility on many days and marine life that makes each dive feel worth it.

Around Playa Blanca, it is common to dive among schools of fish and sometimes spot moray eels, octopus and other corners that make you want to keep looking.

That makes a big difference on a Rescue course like this. You train, you challenge yourself and you learn a lot, but you do it in a place that also reminds you why you love diving in the first place.

This is how your SSI Stress & Rescue works in Lanzarote with Dawn Dives

If you are thinking about doing a Rescue Diver course in Lanzarote, here is a clear idea of how we run it.

You start with the MySSI online theory, working through it at your own pace. This is where you begin to understand where stress in diving comes from, when it can show up and what to do so a situation does not grow into a bigger problem.

It is not theory just to tick a box. It is there so that, when you get in the water, everything makes sense.

Some of the things you will cover include:

  • Signs of stress in yourself and in other divers.
  • Factors that can make a situation more complicated.
  • Prevention before you need to step in.
  • Helping a buddy who starts to panic.
  • Emergency response.
  • Search organisation.
  • Assisting an unresponsive diver.
  • Staying calm and thinking clearly when decisions need to be made.

Next comes practice in the pool or confined water. This is where you start building real skills, not just ideas that sound good on paper.

You repeat, fine-tune and practise until you feel more comfortable with things like:

  • Self-rescue.
  • Helping a stressed diver.
  • Solving equipment problems at the surface and underwater.
  • Taking control of a situation and dealing with it in the right order.
  • Basic rescue skills.
  • Responding to different scenarios.

The goal here is simple: when we move into more realistic situations, it does not all feel brand new.

This is where it all starts to click.

You work through open water scenarios, practise more complex situations and apply what you have been learning in a way that feels much closer to a real dive. And this is also where you notice the important shift: more calm, more control and much less of that blocked feeling when something is not going to plan.

Because this course is not only about knowing what to do. It is about practising it until you start responding better for real.

And yes, even though it is a serious course and you learn a lot, it is also dynamic, very hands-on and much more fun than people usually expect.

One of those courses that leaves you tired, happy and feeling like you have learned loads.

Frequently asked questions about your Rescue Diver course in Lanzarote

It is an intensive course, yes. But it is designed so you can practise properly, understand what you are doing and build confidence step by step.

And on top of that, it is one of those fun and rewarding courses you will remember for a long time.

No. You just need an Open Water certification or equivalent, and the willingness to do a diving rescue course that really helps you grow.

In many cases, yes. If it has been some time since your last dive, we can talk it through with you and see whether it makes sense to do it now or whether it would be better to ease back in first

Yes. If you have a certification equivalent to Open Water, you can join the course with us without any problem.

Yes. Before starting the SSI Stress & Rescue, you need a valid first aid certification completed within the last 24 months. SSI React Right is the SSI first aid course and it meets that requirement.

No problem. We can add SSI React Right so you can update that part and then complete your SSI Stress & Rescue course.

We work with small groups so you get real attention and can practise with calm, space and proper support.

We organise it based on availability and the centre schedule. As the course takes 3 to 5 days, we normally plan it with you so it fits well.

That depends on the planning and the conditions. It can be done in the pool or in shallow sea water, always making sure you can practise safely before moving on to more complete scenarios.

Safety comes first. If conditions are not suitable, we adjust the plan, change the order of the course or reschedule whatever is needed.

The SSI Stress & Rescue theory in MySSI is usually available in more than 40 languages.

That depends on the instructor and availability, but at Dawn Dives we work in several languages. The best thing is to tell us what you need and we will confirm the best option for you.

Just the basics: swimwear, a towel and the right mindset to get stuck into the course. If you have any personal gear that makes you feel more comfortable, like your mask, you are welcome to bring it.

It is not recommended. As a general guide, it is best to wait at least 12 hours after a single dive and 18 hours after multiple dives or several days of diving. If you already know your flight time, we can help you plan it properly.

They are not exactly the same course, because they belong to different training agencies. But they have a very similar level and a very similar goal.

Both are designed to help you prevent problems, stay calm, respond better underwater and become a more capable and reliable diver.

At Dawn Dives, we teach the SSI Stress & Rescue course.
